Favorite things to drink, do, & eat during a blizzard

So, it has finally felt like winter here in PA for the last week or so.  I guess the old man had to show up sometime!  I must say, I am excited for this (potential) blizzard tomorrow.  I can't wait, actually.  I hope that it is not going to turn out to be another meteorologist letdown.  I will be so bummed if we only get like 5 inches of snow.  Although, then we could go out to dinner and I would not have to cook something (or, more accurately, warm something up).  I love to cook, but I like to take Friday and Saturday nights off.  Anyway, there are a few things that I look forward to eating, drinking and doing during blizzards that I am going to share with you.  It would be fun if you comment a few of your favorite things as well!

As for doing...I have 2 Olde English Bulldogges (one was new to the family as of Christmas, if you remember) and I can't wait to play with them in the snow.  Penny, my 5 year old, LOVES the snow.  She bites it, scoops it up with her mouth and flings it into the air, tears around in it like a total nut job, and just generally has a great time.  This will be Murph's first ever encounter with snow.  We had a little dusting the other day, but that doesn't really count.  I will let you know next week if he loves it or hates it.  Both of the pups have jackets for the snow because they get cold easily (they are sissies)...so after playtime, we will light up the fireplace to get warm.  We are pretty lucky now because we have quite a few friends that live pretty close to us...and our gym is right down the street as well.  Hopefully this will mean that we can pump some iron and then follow it up by some shennanigans with our friends.  Shennanigans with our friends obviously means food and drink will be had!

As for food...I feel like blizzards are a pass to eat junk food.  We recently got one of those popcorn-on-demand-air-poppers.  Top that stuff with a little (OK, a lot) of Kerrygold butter & sea salt and you have got yourself a heck of a tasty snack.  I am having a hard time deciding if I want to pick up some Jules Pizza tonight for dinner AND pick up some Indian takeout to heat up for tomorrow, or if I just want to roll the dice and see what we can get tomorrow.  I love Jules Pizza.  It is this thincrust place and they have one right in Doylestown.  I always get several mini pizzas because then I can get all different toppings, and the topping don't touch, AND you have crispy edges.  The Indian food that we get is from a place called Cross Culture.  It is the best Indian food in all of the land.  Anything is good.  I am probably going to get the lamb boti masala extra spicy and some garlic naan and some panir kulcha.  YUMMMMMMM.  Then again, if we do end up enjoying some shennanigans with our friends, we will probably pull out a bunch of meat that we got from the nearby farm from our basement freezer chest.  Can you grill in a blizzard?  Stay tuned...

As for drinking...I love a great cup of hot chocolate.  Sometimes, I like to get a little crazy and add a little peppermint extract...and a shooter of Kahlua!  Yum.  This is perfect post snow puppy play time, shoveling, or sledding...or all of the above.  I also think snowstorms go hand-in-hand with wine.  Like a big wine.  So, I will probably either pull out a bottle or two of our 2013 Petit Verdot, or maybe this Groth Cabernet that I've been waiting for an excuse to open.  If I do open that Groth, I will probably have to make some of those ribeyes that we have in our basement freezer.  I should pull them out tonight...just in case.  I don't think Cabernet Sauvignon goes with spicy lamb boti masala...  But I should probably get the lamb boti masala anyway...I mean, I am going to need lunch tomorrow...

I hope that you have an enjoyable weekend.  Be safe in the snow tomorrow!  Don't forget that our 2013 Meritage and 2014 Chardonnay are on gold medal winner special until Sunday night!  Use the code FARMSHOW at checkout to take advantage of 15% off!!  Until next time...
