Next up...Philly Wine Week!

Can you believe it is April?  WHAT?  We are finished the first quarter of 2016.  Let that sink in for a minute.  I feel like I just wished everyone a, "Happy New Year!" yesterday.  I feel like the rest of this year is just going to go by even faster.  Matt and I have a really busy summer (and fall...and winter...).  A lot of friends are getting married, my brother is getting married, there are bachelorette parties, bachelor parties, showers, birthdays, we are going to Greece and Vienna for a week, we are looking for a house, there's a lot of stuff planned for Karamoor, some competitions for Crossfit, AND I promised myself that this was the summer I am really going to get better and make a commitment to golf!  So, at this rate, the next time I blink it will be 2017.  Do you remember all that Y2K stuff?  Can you believe that was 16+ years ago?

So....last weekend was Easter.  How was yours?  Did you make anything good?  I was really happy with how the whole weekend played out...and I did a bunch of my prep for Sunday's meal on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday...so I was not running around like a crazy woman on Sunday!  I even managed to get all my meal prep done for the week as well!  Look at me go.  I would say that of all the things I made last weekend (the list can be found on last Friday's blog), my favorites were:  carrot tart, leek and feta tart, carrot cake, cheese platter, and those blistered stringbeans with roasted tomato pesto.  The carrot cake that I made was a combination...cake recipe from one place, icing from another...and then I decided to do a buttermilk glaze.  This is the first time that I have ever, in my 31 years, used a glaze on a carrot cake prior to icing.  I do not think that I will be doing it any other way from now on.  The glaze was buttermilk, sugar, vanilla, and butter.  It called for some other stuff that I didn't want to put in (corn syrup (bleh) and baking powder?) so I didn't.  I'm such a rebel.  Anyway, it turned out awesome.  Matt and I never eat this kind of stuff during the week (or in general, really), but we made an exception for these leftovers.  I had told him on Sunday, "Bring the leftover carrot cake to your office!", probably because I had eaten my body weight in cheese platter, puffed pastry, and carrot cake that night.  But he refused.  I'm not upset that he did.  Here's the carrot cake recipe I used:   http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/best-carrot-cake.  The glaze is linked on that page, but I kind of made up my own thing as I mentioned above.  The frosting was easy:  2 cups of confectioner's sugar, 16 oz cream cheese, 2 sticks of butter, 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla.  You should make it.

The Wine Club shipments went out yesterday!  Wooohoo!  I hope that everyone loves the wines that we sent out.  The Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé should be hitting our website soon - stay tuned for those details!  The Barrel Select Cab probably won't be available for a little while, but I promise that it will be worth the wait.  Kevin was bottling the 2014 Cabernet Franc today!  We will be doing the 2014 Meritage next week.

Speaking of next week...it is PHILLY WINE WEEK!  It starts on Sunday night and runs until next Sunday night (April 10).  We have a bunch of stuff going on.  Tria Taproom will be pouring our brand new Rosé via keg on Sunday the 3 and Sunday the 10.  You should definitely check it out!  Monday night, we will have representation at Martha - they will be running a red wine and cheese flight of our wines for the duration of the week!  We will have representation at Heritage on Wednesday night - they are running our Cabernet Franc paired with a small plate for the duration of the week.  On Wednesday night (event 2), you can sample our Cabernet Frand and Chardonnay against other Chardonnays and Cabernet Franc from Pennsylvania (and other places too).  It is going to be a busy week for us!  Don't forget that next Friday (April 8), we will be doing tastings at not one, but two (2) PLCB stores!  4-6PM at the Flourtown wine and spirits shop, and 4-6PM at the Girard Ave wine and spirits shop.  

Happy Friday everyone!  Enjoy the weekend even though I think it supposed to be pretty soggy.  Matt's down in South Carolina for my brother's bachelor party so I get to have girls night tonight!  Then, tomorrow I have an appointment to order my bridesmaid dress.  Mom's going to meet me there and then she is going to come home with me and I am going to show her some of the houses that Matt and I have been looking at.  Also...I get to eat Indian food tonight.  I have been planning what I am going to order since 10AM.  Until next time....
