A blog on a Tuesday???? I know, I know...you are so lucky! Guess what? Tonight, I am going to our wedding venue with Matt and my parents to do a tasting! I can't wait. I really love food. Almost as much as I love wine! The food was second most important to us (after the band!) which is why we really picked our venue (that and the fact that it is funky and cool...just like us!). So, fingers are crossed. I am also very excited to set up a cake tasting. Shop lady: "Hello, Ali! Which cakes would you like to try today?" Ali: "How about all of them? And better throw in a brownie too! You know...just to be sure."
So, now that I have told you all of the important stuff.... Kevin, Joe and his team, and Fabrice have been harvesting their little hearts out down in the vineyard! They are finishing up Cabernet Franc, but our Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon are still hanging in the vineyard. Fingers crossed for more beautiful weather like today! Remember, ripe fruit makes the best wines! Farming vinifera (the noble grapes that we grow) is tough in Pennsylvania due to the wet fall and shorter growing season. We try and let the fruit hang in the vineyard until the last possible moment...which is what allows us to get the flavors that we get in our wines. It is always a happy day once harvest is over...knowing that the grapes you have spent all the time and money growing, are safely picked and fermenting inside the winery is a big relief for everyone! Only a few more weeks!
I haven't shared anything with you guys about this (until yesterday to our newsletter group), but we have been working on a private tasting room. The tours that we have been giving over the past few weeks are now going to get to enjoy this space;
Pretty, huh? The view of the vineyard is spectacular from this room!
Last week I spent pretty much all week unpacking and washing glassware, silverware, china, etc. It took forever! But, I think that the end result was worth it. We had small private affair here for my grandparents and some of their friends on Sunday. We put together a wine pairing for them. Do you want to see what we came up with? Of course you do:
The mother of all cheese boards to go with our 2015 Sauvignon Blanc
Smoked salmon roses with dill creme fraiche, pickled cucumber ribbons, and pumpernickel croutons that paired with our 2015 Chardonnay. YUM.
Duck confit spring rolls with rosé gastric and basmati rice which we paired with both our 2015 Merlot Rosé and our 2013 Cabernet Franc.
Perfectly cooked beef tenderloin with butter poached fingerling potatoes which we paired with our 2013 Merlot Reserve. AMAZING.
What is not pictured here are the desserts. There were chocolate creme brulees, miniature strawberry cheesecakes, and chocolate truffles. Are were delicious. All were eaten!
Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed the mid-week update. We released 3 new dates for tours (11/4, 11/11, 11/23) and tickets are selling fast. We hope that you will join us! Until next time (Friday!)...
