Well, I think that we got lucky with that final "snowstorm", eh? No complaints here! It has been a really beautiful spring week....studded with a very special day....my birthday! It was a quiet one...which was much needed after my weekend in New York City! You guys...I had 2AM pizza on Saturday night. I cannot remember the last time I did that. It was amazing. What is it about New York City that makes their bread items so good? Pizza crust, bagels, cookies...cakes. Speaking of cakes, I picked up a slice of carrot cake from Magnolia bakery for my birthday treat while I was up there. I was very good, I didn't open it on Sunday when I got home, or Monday either! Talk about self control. On Tuesday night, Matt asked me for a bite and I almost stabbed his hand with my fork. I love carrot cake (eventually, I begrudgingly gave him a single bite). In fact, I love carrot cake so much that I am making one for Easter!
So, let's talk about Easter. I am Greek Orthodox. This weekend is not my Easter. We celebrated (regular) Easter with my dad's family when we were younger because they are Presbyterian...so most years we got 2 Easters, unless both of them fell on the same day (which does happen sometimes). Anyway, Matt (bf) is Catholic, so his whole family celebrates (regular) Easter....and this year I am lucky enough to be hosting! My parents are going to come also. I cannot wait. I love to cook!!! Sadly, most weeks and weekends I cook healthy boring stuff like chicken, broccoli, sweet potatoes, oatmeal...but on holidays there are no rules, portion sizes, or limitations on cheese... At least, that's how my holidays usually work out. So, I am pulling out all the stops for one glorious food filled day. Here's the menu:
Ricotta & Carrot Tartlet
Prosopita Tartlet (leek, feta, garlic, etc.)
Oven Roasted Tomato & Mozzarella Tartlet
CHEESE PLATTER!!!! With some vegetables that are to be paired with a ricotta dip (more cheese. cheese everywhere)
Rack of Lamb
Spiral Ham (I have never in my life cooked (warmed) a ham or served a ham, but I mean I guess there should be something traditional!)
Roasted Tomato Pesto Wilted Stringbeans
Carrot Cake and mayyyyyybeeeeeeee Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies
I hope to be eating all of this from about 2:30PM until 8PM...which is when someone is probably going to have to roll me into bed. I am also planning on making Pimm's for beverages. Which reminds me! I must go pick up a bottle (2) of Pimm's. Hopefully the state store has it! I think as far as other beverages go, we will do the Rose (Karamoor of course) and perhaps a Pinot Noir to go with the lamb chops. I bet the Karamoor Rose would also be a match with the ham, but I have a feeling that those eating ham will opt for one of Matt's chosen beers (probably Kahuna Big Wave (My dad actually introduced him to this beer. See Dad!! I gave you credit.) and some kind of Belgium Whit). It is going to be a tight squeeze with all these people in our little condo, but it will be a great time.
As for things that are happening here at Karamoor, we will be bottling our Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon next week. Just in time for the first wine club shipment of 2016! Robert is doing a tasting tonight at the PLCB on Broad Street from 4-6PM (address can be found in last week's blog post). We will be sending out our wine club shipments on Wednesday of next week. It is not too late to sign up! For more information on our wine clubs, just click the tab at the top of this page! Signature Mixed Club will be receiving 2013 Cabernet Franc, 2013 Meritage, & 2015 Sauvignon Blanc; Signature Red Club will be receiving 2015 Rose, 2013 Cabernet Franc, & 2013 Meriage; Reserve Club will be receiving 2008 Cabernet Franc from our private library stock, 2010 Reserve Merlot, and 2014 Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon.
I hope that you have a wonderful Easter if you are celebrating, and if you aren't, enjoy the beautiful weekend! I will send out information to our mailing group as soon as I have a date of when our new wines will be available on the website! Happy Friday, and until next time....
