Next week is February.  How does this happen?  Things have been so busy here, we are working on some special projects that I will fill you in on later and it is looking like our calendar is almost full for February - May pretty much.  And then we are halfway through the year!  Wowza.  

Did you see the article that Craig LaBan wrote on our 2015 Chardonnay?  If not, here is the link:  It should be running in his column this weekend, so if you get the paper, take a look!  I don't think that I had mentioned in last week's blog that the 2015 Chardonnay is the same Chardonnay that we labeled for AKA hotels (and it is served all over the country in their lounges and restaurants), but it is a relationship that we are very proud of.  It's a great company, and we are so happy to be partnered with them on this project.

Speaking of proud of, I'm happy to announce that we released, as of today, our 2015 Cabernet Franc!  If you know me, you know that my favorite wine that we make is our Cabernet Franc (with Petit Verdot being the only exception...).  I'm so excited for you guys to give us some feedback on it.  It MAY be the best Cabernet Franc that we have produced to date!  Give it a whirl.

Sorry for the short blog post, but today got away from me and we have a tour coming in!  I feel like this happens more often than not on Fridays.  How do they go by so quickly?  Mondays seem to last 2 weeks and Fridays are over before you blink.  I'm headed to NYC tomorrow to get my hair cut (my mom has been AFTER me..."you need a hair cut, blah blah blah") and have a nice afternoon in the city with Matt.  Other than that, it is slated to be a quiet weekend for us.  I hope that you enjoy the warmer weather that I'm seeing in the forecast...and then maybe some snow on Tuesday!  Until next time...

We took home some medals!

Hello!  I can't believe how quickly this week went by.  I think that it flew because it was so busy.  We've been working on a few projects here at Karamoor that have been taking up a good portion of my time (not ready to talk about them just yet), but besides that, Matt and I started a construction project at the house (we are walling off an area of our bedroom to build a fancy closet).  It started on Wednesday of this week, so after the gym on Tuessday, I packed up a bag for myself, and then packed up Murph and Penny and drove over to my parents house (Gertie stayed at the house because she is still little enough to be crated and Matt was able to come home during the day to let her out and I suspect that the contractors ate their lunch with her...).  I spent the night at Mom and Dad's since it was closer to work and I didn't want to drive all the way home and then all the way back to the same area for work the next morning (especially since we were supposed to maybe get 3 inches of snow!).  It was great to only have a 15 minute drive to work!  This portion of the construction project should be completed today.  So far, they put up a wall, installed hardwood, ran electrical, and they are finishing with installing the French doors and the moulding.  Maybe this weekend I will prime and paint the walls!  Next week, we are going to be having some recessed lighting put in and a chandelier installed.  Then at some point in March, the closets and island will be installed.  I still have to pick out marble and then drawer pulls and handles.  I'm actually thinking about painting the French doors black instead of the normal white or cream that you typically see.  I think it will add a nice update to something that is typically traditional (since our house is not really traditional in style).  I'm very happy with how it is turning out and the contractors that we are using work SO CLEAN.  It is amazing.  When we get home from work, it is like no one was even there.  No dirt, no dust, no shoe prints.  It's like little elves were there instead of contractors!

Anyway, DID YOU HEAR THE NEWS?!  We had shipped our wines out to be judged at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition back in early November and they just did the judging last weekend.  Our 2015 Chardonnay took a GOLD medal!  Wahoo!  We are so proud because it was up against some real heavy hitters.  It was judged in the category of $26-$29.99 bottles, so there were some nice Chardonnays in there!  The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is the largest AMERICAN ONLY wines competition in the country.  Every year, there are over 7000 entrants from over 1000 wineries within the USA.  We just sold out of the 2014 Chardonnay 2 weeks ago and the 2015 Chardonnay was added to our website last week.  The 2015 Chardonnay is the same Chardonnay that is being sold at A.Kitchen and Bar under AKA's private label:  A.Vin.

The Chardonnay wasn't the only medal winner, our 2016 Sauvignon Blanc took home a bronze medal as did our 2014 Meritage!  I did a write up on the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc last week - it's drinking great.  We sold the 2014 Meritage by the case over the holidays and it's gotten rave reviews.  The blend on the 2014 Meritage is different than the blend on the 2013 Meritage.  The 2014 is 38.5% Cabernet Franc, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 11.5% Petit Verdot while the 2013 vintage is 37% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Petit Verdot.  So, the 2014 is MUCH more Cab dominant than it has been in years past.  It is neat to taste the 2013 and the 2014 Meritage side by side!

2016 Sauvignon Blanc is available!

Welp, it's been like 3 weeks since my last post...and it's a Thursday!  AND IT IS 2018!  Crazy.  How was your New Year's celebration?  We had a smaller dinner party with some close it was much more low key than in years past.  More low key = less dishes!  So, that was nice.  I overcooked the beef tenderloin, though.  I was pretty bummed about that.  I used the "cook on 500 for 5 minutes per lb and then keep the door shut leave in the oven for an hour".  This method has not failed me in the past, so I was shocked.  Maybe because it was a skinnier roast?  I don't know.  There is nothing worse (in cooking!), however, than cutting into an expensive cut of meat and seeing that it is not pink in the middle.  The rest of the dinner was great.  I've figured out the best way to make mashed potatoes.  You've got to try it!  Start with Yukon Gold potatoes in cold water with a lot of salt (with skins ON), bring the water to a boil, boil potatoes until they are fork tender, break out your handy dandy ricer and rice all the potatoes through the finest or 2nd finest attachment, warm milk and butter on the stove, and add to the riced potatoes while using a metal whisk until you get the perfect creamy consistency.  I added roasted garlic, salt, chives, and a little black pepper.  They would probably be excellent with some cheese in there as well.

Anyway, enough about delicious potatoes, let's talk about wine!  We have sold out of our 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and have moved into our 2016 vintage!  It is a slightly different blend of grapes; 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 7% Viognier, and 3% Pinot Gris.  That being said, if you were a fan of the 2015, you are going to love the 2016!  We are suggesting (if you don't want to just drink it by itself to remind you of warm weather and sunshine!) that you pair this wine with cheeses, delicate white fish, oysters, shellfish, or a yummy salad.  We've labeled this wine a "porch pounder" or a "patio pounder", because it is very easy to drink.  There is nice acidity (making it a good pairing wine for the foods listed above), but it is a well balanced wine that will not leave you feeling like it needed to be paired with something for it to be enjoyable.  Give it a whirl and let us know what you think!
